Seven Year Pens

Overview

A staple item at Seltzer, the Seven Year Pen is a refillable pen that adds a bit of personality to the day to day. The goal when adding new pens to the line is to try to come up with motifs that we feel are fun and personable. Then we try to translate that as a design on the pen. I worked with the Creative Director to help guide and work with our design team in order to add in new pens to the line.

In addition to pen production, I created marketing images for the line of pens. I organized photo shoots, worked with photographers in person and over long distance, took photos myself, and edited images for both print and digital purposes.

Socail Media

For social media the goal is to show off the personality of the pen. This was done through either creating office scenes and seeing how adding the pen to the space can change the environment, or by focusing on the specific illustration on the pen.

Website Design

For our website we continued to bring the fun personality of the social posts for these pens to our front page. The challenge was trying to figure out new ways to compose the pens for these larger images and simultaneously make sure the designs were clear enough for people to see.

production work

A challenge when making this product is that we are trying to create a design for a very narrow amount of space. In addition to that, there is a limit with the number of colors that can be used. Designs need to have clear themes and need to be bold enough to stand out.

Pen Design

I made the sketches below when exploring ideas for our Lounging Cat Pen, one of our popular pen designs. The goal was to create a cat themed illustration that was strong enough to be an interesting pen design without needing type. After the illustration direction was picked for the pen, I worked on different ways to use a single color to fill in the cat on the pen clip. Once we had an idea of the amount of coverage we wanted, the design was handed over to the illustrator for a final render.
